Title: Church Interior

Century: Medieval period

Location: France

Notes: The interiors of medieval churches were decorated with colourful paintings of bible stories or saints lives. The pillars in this church have paintings on them, which are unfortunately not clear in this photo. The stained glass windows cast colourful images on the unpainted upper parts of the pillars. The centre aisle of this church instead of leading straight on to the apse, curves to the right, in imitation of the head of Christ as he died upon the cross. (Back)
