Kathleen Garay
Producer

Kathy Garay teaches History and Women's Studies at McMaster University in Hamilton. From 1997-1998, she was Acting Director of the Women's Studies Programme at McMaster. Her primary research area is the fourteenth and fifteenth century in Eastern and Western Europe, with a particular emphasis on the role of women. Her recent publications focus on women's spirituality in the later medieval period. Dr. Garay is the producer of Sybils! An Interactive Exploration of Women in the Middle Ages, a CDROM on Medieval and Renaissance women, developed by the McMaster Working Group on the Middle Ages. The group, which includes Madeleine Jeay, is currently integrating multimedia technologies into research and teaching.

Madeleine Jeay
Associate Producer

Dr. Madeleine Jeay is professor of French at McMaster University where she has taught since 1983. She has published three books and more than twenty articles. Her research focuses on the literatures of Medieval France and their relationship with aspects of culture such as folklore or popular religion. She is a member of the McMaster Working Group on the Middle Ages and Renaissance. She contributed to the Sybils! CD-ROM. Interested in multimedia and hypertext, she is currently working on a hypertext edition of French medieval poetry on the Internet. As a member of the research group SATOR (Societe pour 1 Analyse de la Topique Romanesque), she is involved in the elaboration of an Internet database of narrative topoi in French literature before 1800.

Muriel McKay
Technical Producer

Muriel is a member of the LAN Group in Computing and Information Services at McMaster University. Functioning as the University WebMaster Muriel is responsible for the WWW server setup, configuration and maintenance of the University WWW Homepage and central site.

Involved in both a technical and a creative/artistic capacity, Muriel has been project manager for many WWW projects for both on campus and off-campus initiatives.

Marvin Ryder
Executive Producer

Marvin Ryder is McMaster's Assistant Vice-President, Information Services and Technology. He has responsibility for the entire area of Computing and Information Services at McMaster University. He also teaches in McMaster's School of Business.

Ryan Barrett
Assistant Designer and Segment Designer

Ryan is a first year Humanities student at McMaster University. Spending his summer working in "The Nunnery" and the "The World", Ryan developed the Flash pages, games and site animation.

Liz Blackwell

Liz is a student at Trent University and helped out with general support tasks such as scanning, proofreading and researching keyword metadata.

Paola Borin
Usability Architect

Paola works at the Centre for Leadership in Learning at McMaster University where she works as an Educational Consultant, Usability and Information Architect. Prior to working at McMaster, Paola worked in Toronto at Extend Media in their User Experience Department on projects for Bell Canada, CTV Sportsnet and Shaftesbury Films. Paola also makes a mean cup of tea.

Nadine Burke
Music Research and Discography

Nadine graduated Summa Cum Laude in Honours Music at McMaster University, specializing in History and Theory, with a Minor in Women's Studies. Plans for the future include working on her Masters in Music Criticism at McMaster University.

Jodie Hart
Assistant Designer and Illustrator

Jodie is a graduate of the Sheridan College Illustration program and is now registered in Hons. Art in the Faculty of Humanities at McMaster. Jodie draws and paints in a traditional style and she has been doing commissioned art work for several years. Jodie also uses Adobe Photoshop for computer art work.

Jill Hohs
Production Assistant, Accountant and Secretarial Assistance

Jill has worked for Computing and Information Services as an Administrative Assistant for 13 years. For the last 4 years Jill has been creating and maintaining different departmental WWW sites at McMaster including CIS, CHEPA and many others. Jill has experience in HTML, CorelDRAW and Corel Photopaint. She shares WebMaster duties at McMaster so is experienced at Netscape Enterprise server configuration. Jill has budgeting and administrative expertise in addition to WWW and Internet skills.

Thuc (Tracy) Hoang
Illustration and Animation

Tracy is a student at McMaster University majoring in Computer Science (in the Mathematical Sciences program (III)) with an intended study in Graphics & Animation. Tracy illustrated Margery's Pilgrimage.

Edvard Lauman
Web Designer/Programmer

Ed will be entering his fourth year of the Computer Engineering Programme at McMaster in September 2000. In the past he has worked on the website for Barton Secondary School and he was the webmaster for the McMaster Society of Off-Campus Students. As head programmer for Chimaera SDG, he has developed and continues to develop small games and utilities for the Macintosh.

His responsibilities on the Medieval Women Project include such things as creating the HTML sections of the site, writing or modifying all Javascript and Perl scripts, digitizing audio and video and incorporating it into the site and just about anything else that no one else has time to do.

Erika Smith
Timeline

Erika is currently in her third year at McMaster University, completing an Honours Degree in English and MultiMedia. Her role was to complete the Medieval Timeline section of the site. Through collaborative work with other team members, Erika gained practical experience with the technical and aesthetic demands of a large work of MultiMedia. She also learned interesting historical information about Medieval Women and their importance in history. Erika would like to say thank you to Dr. Garay, Ryan, and the entire team for their knowledge and valuable imput, and to Sean, Karen, and the Smith and Reid families for their constant support and encouragement.

Patti Smith
Research Associate - Archive & Database Design

Patti is a graduate of McMaster University (Hons History, 90) who now operates a Talent Agency in Hamilton with her partner Kathy Lawson. She is a continuing student who became involved in the project after a guest lecture by Dr Kathy Garay on medieval history, technology and the www. Patti was responsible for the design, development and management of the image archive and database, she also digitally photographed many of the university's rare books and mss for the site. A member of the "Images Team", she learned much about web technology, its limitations and most importantly, about practical feminist theory and its application(s).

Jo-Ann Wade
Reasearch Associate - Images, Calender and Links Page

Jo-Ann is a fourth year Honours Sociology/Women's Studies student at Mc Master. She is the recipient of the Eleanor Turner Carment Prize for the year 2000, which recognizes academic achievement and community involvement. As a research associate in this project her contributions include The Links Page, the design and layout of the Calendar and image enhancements and preparations as part of the "image team".
